unearthing time

Unearthing Time grew out of a commission by the Chazen Art Museum at the University of Wisconsin, to paint with minerals collected from a geological excavation in Wyoming. My son and I camped and worked with geologists on a prehistoric site, and I collected pigments from hillsides and prairie. The pigments were volatile and not lightfast, so I used standard pigments to create the series, however, the concept of layered time remained intact.
