sanctus

Sanctus is a return to imagery, referring to the vanishing habitats of birds, among others, in the face of climate change and habitat destruction.  Images are obscured, eroded, effaced.  Eggs mysteriously float above their nests.  Objects fall or rise from tree branches, and around nests.  Within each painting's quiet message, however, are signs of vitality.  Nests are vibrant and laced with rich earth tones. Birds take flight.  Tree branches reach beyond the canvas edge.

The series suggests a timely faith in humanity, a celebration of  widespread and growing efforts to reverse the course of centuries of environmental degradation.  Sanctus is our own refuge, and this body of work speaks to the hope and faith in our willingness to honor and restore it.
