batholith

Batholith takes its name from a geological process and resulting formation.  The series refers to ongoing physical transformation of the world beneath us, a recognition of our place in nature and in this time, a perspective into our natural historical context.

The Batholith series is inspired by the Sierra Nevada batholith - the ubiquitous salt and pepper rock that underlies California's entire eastern central mountain range.  A batholith is deep beyond comprehension; it is by definition bottomless.  These multi-layered paintings are my idea of an abyss, streaked with light and mottled with accumulated minerals.
